WHAT IS A DENTAL IMPLANT?

dental implant is a screw made of a biocompatible, synthetic material, specifically titanium, which is surgically placed into the bone to serve as the base for a subsequent prosthesis to rehabilitate the missing tooth. The implant undergoes a surface roughening treatment to ensure the union between the implant and the bone.

There are three main parts of a restored crown with a dental implant: The screw (implant), the connector (abutment), and the crown on the implant (which provides functionality and aesthetics).

Unlike conventional prostheses, dental implants offer greater fixation and therefore much more comfort for the patient. There are many types of implants, depending on diameter, length, material surface, and more. The crowns on implants can be cemented (fixed) or screwed (fixed but removable if desired). coronas sobre los implantes pueden estar cementadas (de forma fija) o atornilladas (de forma fija pero con la posibilidad de removerse, si se desea).

The dental Implantology It is the branch of dentistry that focuses on the study, diagnosis, and placement of dental implants into the jawbones. Its goal is to replace missing or poorly prognosed teeth through the surgical placement of an implante ,  él cual nos sirven de soporte a una corona o rehabilitación dental.

WHAT ARE THE PHASES OF DENTAL IMPLANTOLOGY TREATMENT?

Dental implantology treatment is carried out individually for each patient, which is why a precise diagnosis is essential in order to provide the most suitable treatment.

  • Study PhaseIn this stage, a personalized examinationof each patient's clinical situation. By relying on complementary exams that are extremely helpful for diagnosis (X-rays and CT scans), we can analyze the jawbones, anatomical structures, adjacent teeth, and more. With this information, we can offer patients the most appropriate treatment option for their specific case.
  • Implant Placement PhaseThe surgical phase is focused on this stage. A surgical procedure is performed, and with local anesthesia, the implant is placed (approximately 30 minutes per implant). A waiting period of 3 to 6 months (depending on the case) is required for the implant to properly integrate with the bone. During this phase, it is also evaluated whether the patient can wear a temporary tooth anchored directly to the implant (immediate loading).
  • Oral Rehabilitation PhaseDuring this phase, a series of measurements and tests are carried out to create the crown or prosthesis, which will be either cemented or screwed onto the dental implant, where it will later be placed.

Delivery Time:

  • Between 4 to 12 months, depending on the patient's case.

COMPUTER GUIDED IMPLANTS

Currently, there are two ways to place dental implants. The first, or conventional method, requires making incisions in the gum to access the jawbone, allowing the implants to be placed manually, which demands a high level of skill from the operator. On the other hand, there is a new technique for implant placement known as computer-guided surgery, which allows us to plan and place the implants virtually using specialized software. For this, we ask the patient to undergo a radiographic study through an oral scanner, which provides us with a three-dimensional image of the patient's jawbone. By entering the study data into
the computer, and thanks to the software, two- and three-dimensional reconstructions of the patient's mouth are generated. At that moment, we can simulate the procedure, allowing us to place the implants in the optimal position to achieve perfect aesthetics and function.

Advantages of Computer-Guided Implant Placement:

  1. Alta exactitud y precisión
  2. No requieren incisiones ni colocación de puntos o suturas
  3. Postoperatorio sin dolor
  4. Procedimientos mucho más rápidos
  5. Posibilidad de tener dientes fijos en el mismo día del procedimiento.
